What is Lorenzo's Oil?

·Lorenzo's Oil is used as a preventative for boys who carry the ALD gene and who are not yet symptomatic.
·Lorenzo's oil can be given by prescription, or can be bought.
·Lorenzo's Oil is a combination of two fats extracted from olive oil and rapeseed oil, respectively.

Can Lorenzo's Oil help treat diseases other than ALD?

Lorenzo's Oil is specific to ALD, does not repair myelin and does not have any known effect on other demyelinating diseases.

In ALD presymptomatic boys, Lorenzo's Oil often (but not always) prevents the onset of the disease by stopping the body from producing the very long chain fatty acids, whose build-up leads to demyelination. Lorenzo's Oil is taken daily under strict observation of a specialist and is usually complimented with a low fat diet.

It is not recommended to take Lorenzo's Oil for any other disease; this could be potentially lethal and could cause damage to your body. Boys who have been diagnosed with the ALD gene should have their consultant/specialist contact Dr. Gerald v. Raymond at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore. Dr. Raymond is at present running a clinical study on AMN (adult form of ALD).
