MYELIN IN THE MOORS

DSCF0001On May 1st, walkers gathered from all over the UK to make every step count towards a breakthrough for Multiple Sclerosis and Leukodystrophy. The British Trust for The Myelin Project held their first annual walkathon from Edale to Crowden and walkers turned out from as far south as London and as far north as Scotland, all in the name to raise funds for vital research. The sponsor money is still coming in but the total raised has now reached over £7,000. The walkers were launched on their walk after a hot breakfast at the famous Nag's Head Inn in Edale. They travelled by foot along the Pennine Way, braving 10 hours of walking up and down the 15mile+ track in the wind and sun. walkers3aDespite a few rest breaks along the way, they eventually ended up in Crowden with tired feet but grand smiles. They were welcomed with cheers, champagne and buffet as well as music provided by the band, Fayze2 of Hadfield. The music was so good; it even got their tired toes a tapping! Campers from the Crowden Campsite, Youth Hostel and fans of Fayze2 (from all over Derbyshire) as well as friends and families; all helped form the welcoming party. The Bull's Head in Tintwistle provided the liquid refreshment for the party and a raffle was held at the reception for a range of prizes: Headroom of Hadfield, Regatta Outdoor Clothing of Manchester, Bulldog Fashions of Glossop donated some prizes and Bodycheck Fitness Centre in Glossop donated the grand prize of a 3-month membership.

The Glossop Mountain Rescue team members were also on hand at the reception staging a static display and to offer information on their charity. Over £5,000 in donations were raised and still more arriving in daily may put us over the £6,000 mark! It's not too late to send in a donation to help congratulate our walkers' efforts. Also, contact our office if you would like to register for next year's event. Well done everyone!
